I am a senior at VCU majoring in human resources management. I will graduate in May with a bachelors degree. I currently work as the HR intern at Sonoco. This is my second internship in three years (previously with Richmond Behavioral Health Authority). Although I am not yet sure where my career will take me, I hope to work as an HR generalist starting out and eventually move into the consulting field. I am involved with many student organizations on VCU's campus. I have been the President of the Society for Human Resources Management and Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. I am also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Last spring, I was on the winning VCU team in the Virginia State Collegiate HR Games. I will also be competing in this competition on February 25th. I was honored to receive the Distinguished Service Award for the Department of Management in 2005. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.86. In my free time, I enjoy playing the flute and singing.
Project management has interested me for many different reasons. The growing
importance of teams and the ability to plan the execution of teams have made
this discipline important in the business world, but this is not why it has
interested me. One reason thing that drew me to project management is the
challenge. The more challenging something is, the better. I enjoy working on
things that don't necessarily have a right or wrong answer. I also realize
that managing a project can be very similar to managing your life. These
types of analytical and organizational skills are the ones that you truly
value upon leaving college. I also feel that the term "projects" can include
so many events that have impacted the world we live in and the lives that we
lead. Studying and learning about the process of project management allows
me an insight into the amazing things that people have accomplished
throughout history |
