November 2008 - PMI CVC Certification News

PMI CVC Certification Update – November 2008

We have just finished another successful PMP Certification Prep Workshop. Due to the change the way that companies value PMPs, we have seen an increase in the number of students sitting for the PMP exam.  Both sessions of the workshops have been full at 35 students with waiting lists.  Please sign up early for your best chance of getting a seat at one of our workshops.

Speaking of workshops our next workshop will be in the spring of 2009.  As many of you know, the PMBOK 4 will be released in Dec 2008.  The new test will be given starting June 30, 2009.  In order to help those studying for the "old exam" (i.e., the one for PMBOK 3), we have tentatively scheduled the spring workshop in March.  I am currently finalizing the dates with the committee and the presenters and will have more information in the coming weeks.  Please continue to check back on the pmicvc.org website and watch the newsletter for more concrete dates.

We could not run the workshops without all the help from the Certification Committee.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank:  Betty Jane Hughes, Cliff Vaught, Tom White, Rick Kaerwer, Tobie Hanekom, Mel Washington, Nancy Ingalls, Debbie Corbett-Cooper, John Lombardi, Pam Kida, Paul Procopio, Chris Bobber, Miles Anderson, Natalie Harrison, and Rula Saba for giving us their Saturday free time.

Our chapter is very fortunate to have such a deep presenter pool from which to draw.  We held presenter auditions earlier this summer and had a tremendously positive turnout.  We were able to bring in a number of new, very talented presenters for this past workshop.  As is the norm for out chapter, the evaluations for the workshop and presenters was very favorable and appreciative. In fact, we had a student finish the class on Saturday and pass the exam on the following Saturday. (Please note he had studied on his own and used the class as a refresher before the exam.)  This is what he had to say about the workshop:

Good news!  I passed the PMP Certification Exam this past Saturday, Oct 11th after taking your Fall PMP Prep Workshop (see below).

Your PMI PMP Prep workshop, PMI's recommended approach, the workshop PM presentations and the excellent study materials PMI provided were instrumental in me passing the exam Saturday.

I hope there will be others from the workshop who will apply and take the exam as I did.

Many thanks to you and the PMI workshop presenters...  I couldn't have done this without you.

I want to give a special thank you to all of our presenters: Susan Thomas, Bruce Slough, Walter Stone, Alex Marten, Wes Robertson, Robert Young, Robert Berlin, Charlie Russell, David Klein, Rick Pellegrino, Harvey Summers and Patricia Samuels.

Thank you once again to everyone who helped make this workshop a success.

Best Regards,
Kristen Baker, PMP
