Carrie E. Miller Receives Elizabeth Murray Scholarship at VCU
PMI CVC is pleased to announce
that Carrie E. Miller has been awarded the Elizabeth Murray Scholarship Award.
This award is a merit scholarship given to a student at Virginia Commonwealth
University who has a guided interest in the profession of project management.
Ms. Miller is a Senior with a double major in Human Resource Management and
Industrial Relations. She has aspirations of attending law school following
her graduation and is looking towards a career in labor and employment law.
While at VCU, Carrie has maintained a 3.97 GPA and is a member of several national honor societies. She has recently been selected as a student representative for the School of Business' campaign for a new building. Carrie also spends part of her time tutoring her fellow students. Her exposure to project management initiated a desire to further understand group dynamics and how they influence a project.
PMI CVC plans to recognize Ms. Miller with a presentation of the scholarship award during the March 2004 PMI CVC Chapter Dinner Meeting.
The scholarship is named after Elizabeth Murray, a charter member of the Central Virginia Chapter and president for two years during the chapter's initial stages. The chapter established a scholarship at VCU through a $10,000 donation that was matched by the university's endowment fund in the year 2000.

There are lots of benefits to being a volunteer for the PMI CVC:
Our chapter ended 2004 with 674 members. Of those, there were 50 volunteers who spent many hours carrying on the work of the chapter. In addition to the visible monthly meeting and seminar roles, there are many behind the scenes activities that are required. There are many different talents necessary and many different levels of time commitment. So as you can see, there is a spot available for you to help no matter what.
Many of our 50 volunteers serve on multiple committees. They do it because they believe in what we are doing and also because they enjoy the fellowship. There are more things we could do with our chapter, but the current pool of volunteers would be stretched almost to the breaking point.
We will soon have job descriptions available on the Volunteer Section of our web site, and we will also post "Want Ads" for specific jobs in search of a special volunteer. To volunteer, you can send an e-mail to volunteer@pmicvc.org, or talk to any officer at the next chapter meeting.
So bring your ideas, your energy, and your commitment so you can reap the benefits of being a volunteer. We look forward to working with you.
