The Role of Portfolio Management in IT Governance by Cathie Brown, CGEIT, PMP, CISM, CISSP<

IT Goverenance Solutions, LLC offers consulting services to assist organizations in building the structure necessary for a strong IT governance program.  Several frameworks are available to provide guidance and facilitate the effort, however ValIT and COBIT are especially relevant.  IT Governance is about creating value to the business by making the right decisions on IT investments and projects that support strategic objectives.

IT Governance ensure the right questions are asked regarding IT:

  • What is the Value to the business?
  • What is the Cost to the business?
  • What is the Risk to the business?
  • How does it enhance the Performance of the business?

As a main component of IT Governance,  Project and Portfolio Management is essential to the success of IT in an organization.  This presentation will review the importance of Portfolio Management as outlined in frameworks for IT Governance.

Cathie Brown is currently working as President and Founder of IT Governance Solutions, LLC.  Cathie has varied experience in both public and private sectors. She recently served as Deputy Chief Information Security Officer for the Commonwealth, and previously held various IT positions in the healthcare sector where she focused on HIPAA compliance and Information Security.  Her experience includes systems engineer work in mainframe and distributed environments, networking and systems security.  She has earned certification in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT) and the Certified Information Security Manager certification (CISM) from ISACA, certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, and Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) from ISC(2).
