PMO LIG News – September 2009

The PMO LIG took a hiatus during the summer to determine what the next steps are in the evolution of this venue.  Many of the volunteers that had helped get this group started had fallen away, and the burden was immense for the remaining volunteers.

If you have attended the chapter meetings, or read the newsletter you may have seen a request for new volunteers to evaluate and re-invigorate these events.  A number of people have “stepped up” and agreed, in principle, to help with the PMO LIG.  This group met in August to discuss how to keep this program going.

One of the important points of discussion is to ensure the PMO LIG fills a need and provides value to the PMI CVC members that attend that meeting.  The volunteers are working on a survey that will be sent to all members that have signed up for the PMO LIG, and will also be available on the PMI CVC website soon.  This survey will help us in terms of how to structure the PMO LIG going forward.

This group did make some decisions about the PMO LIG.  We are reconfiguring the PMO LIG to encompass the entire journey  an organization can take in order to produce and effective Portfolio Management Office.  Namely, we will tie in the Project Management Office, the Program Office, and the Portfolio Management Office as part of the overarching plan for the PMO LIG.  This will allow PMI CVC members to choose the topics of direct interest to their current situation, as well as offer the opportunity to learn about the other topics of interest.

The general flow will be periodic meetings that will blend discussions on these three topics, with a speaker or presenter to go into detail on one of these topics at each meeting.

We plan on completing a calendar of events over the next two months, and then will begin to publish a schedule of the events, including the location and any additional costs.

How can you help?  Please watch for the survey and complete it, to help gauge and reveal topics and areas of interest.  We will then align the future meetings to satisfy that interest.  And, if you are interested in helping with the volunteer group, contact Sharon Robbins, PMP (vp.volunteerism@pmicvc.org).
