January 2005 President's Letter
Letter from the President
This year marks the start of my fifth year with the PMI Central Virginia Chapter leadership. To build on this month's theme of Volunteer Recognition, I want to thank everyone for their past support. In particular, I want to thank the many volunteers, fellow board members and committee members who have provided the means for successful chapter leadership.
Since we are all in the project management business, we know that it takes extensive planning and coordination to deliver the events and services PMI CVC delivers.
In early December, outgoing and incoming PMI CVC board members attended an annual transition and strategic planning session. We reviewed the chapter's 2004 achievements, vision, mission, and proposed plans and budgets associated with each area during this all-day event. The meeting was very effective in orienting new board members, planning 2005 events, and building a good team environment (much like a project kickoff meeting).
Having accomplished a successful transition, the 2005 board is already working together to execute 2005 events. We move forward into the New Year with the following plans to serve members' professional interests in support of the chapter vision and mission.
2005 Membership Events
Hold ten membership meetings including one recognition event and one joint meeting with another professional organization
Publish six newsletters
Maintain and enhance web site functionality
Deliver two PMP certification workshops
Conduct three educational seminars
Continue our alliance with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
Conduct an annual membership survey to discover members' needs and preferences
Expand our relationship with the Greater Richmond Technology Council and the Richmond Joint Engineering Council
Investigate outreach sessions opportunities to meet the growing needs and involve more of our members in outlying geographical areas
Grow
opportunities outside the chapter by partnering with the business and education
communities paving the way for unique volunteer and learning opportunities throughout
Central Virginia
I know you will find value and a sense of accomplishment through participation in these events.
2005 Board Events
PMI CVC and its members benefit from the time volunteers take in attending these administrative-type events and completing activities required by law or by PMI headquarters. These activities provide the momentum to keep the chapter successfully moving forward.
2005 Board of Directors
Please welcome the 2005 PMI CVC Board or Directors. As a Project Manager and a member of PMI, you are our customer. Keeping in mind our chapter mission, the following board members will strive to meet your needs.
