Letter from the President

Wow! Spring is here! Time is really flying by. We’re a quarter of the way through the year and things are starting to take shape as we work on our twin goals this year of 1) Expanding our footprint of member services and 2) Increasing Volunteer Opportunities / Participation. Let me share with you some of the exciting developments…

Expanding Our Footprint of Member Services:

West-End Monthly Meeting Pilot: Plans are well underway for conducting our pilot of a second monthly meeting serving the West-End. Sally Deering, PMP, our VP, Programs has a great team of folks working along side her providing the leadership necessary to make this event a reality. We will have our first meeting starting in May. This first meeting will be a combined meeting (i.e. we won’t be having our regularly scheduled Wednesday meeting in May). Our first month with dual meetings will start in June. Checkout the meeting highlights posted by Sally and her team on our website and the meeting announcements in this newsletter.

Other Satellite Meetings: Interest has been expressed for a meeting to be held in the Fredericksburg area. We have a catalyst of leaders that have volunteered to take the lead in framing up this effort. Members who would like to help in this effort or would be interested in finding out more may contact me at president@pmicvc.org , by reaching out to our VP, Membership, Andy Shulick at vp.membership@pmicvc.org or by reaching out to Richard “Cat” Catalon, PMP at RCatalon@adelphia.net.

Region 5 Symposium: We’ve been participating in planning a Region 5 Project Management Symposium. It is being hosted by the Metrolina Chapter in Charlotte, NC. This event will provide up to 13.5 PDUs for the event itself and an additional 14 PDUs for the pre-event workshops. You can find additional information on our website or by going the Region 5 Symposium site at http://www.pmi-metrolina.org/r5/home.htm.

Online Voting Project: We’re making progress on our project for online voting! This will be a huge win for our membership as we expand the ability to participate in choosing our board of directors beyond the members that are physically able to be present at our October meeting. Check out Robert Berlin’s information about the project in this letter as well as the updates on the project status page project status page.

30 Minute Meetings: We’ve initiated a new series of communication to our members in our 30 Minute Meetings. These sessions are being held concurrently with the networking time that precedes dinner. Our first meeting was a New Member Orientation. Other meetings on other topics will follow as the year progresses. The purpose of these meetings is to provide an additional information forum for members and to provide another opportunity to interact and give feedback to the board. Additionally, certain sessions afford an additional 0.5 PDUs to our PMPs. Contact myself at president@pmicvc.org or our VP-Programs, Sally Deering at vp.programs@pmicvc.org for more information.

Increasing Volunteer Opportunities:

We’ve added a new position this year to serve as the hub for our volunteer opportunities. Our VP-Volunteerism, Phil Doty, PMP is putting together the finishing touches on our “Job Jar”. The job jar is intended to increase opportunities for members to participate and earn PDUs. Additional volunteer areas are arising as we put together the leadership and execution teams for the additional programs we’re creating. All are great opportunities to participate and become involved in the chapter. Look for additional information in the days / weeks ahead.

As you can see, great things are happening and it’s exciting to see our plans taking shape! We’ve a great team of leaders working on these projects. Come join them in making great and exciting things happen for our chapter!

Best regards,
Jim
