May 2007 - Letter from the President |
|
| Time goes by quickly and it is already May. There have been many positive outcomes from our PMI CVC chapter plans, and there is more to come in 2007. We have some excellent chapter meetings this year, held our first Professional Development workshop for 2007, and kicked off our Certification Workshop – just a beginning of the list of deliverables. Board Changes I would like to announce that PMI CVC has a new VP of Volunteerism. Jennifer Perrin has accepted the role for the remainder of the current term. Please welcome Jennifer to the Board. She is excited about working with the members and the Board to take our volunteers to the next level. We had a great field of candidates (11 total) that inquired about the VP of Volunteerism role and it was a difficult choice. To be fair and equitable to all of the candidates, a description of the role and expectations was provided, and the candidates were asked to answer a few questions about what they would do as VP of Volunteerism. While we are disappointed that Tilithia was not able to fulfill her term as VP of Volunteerism, we wish her all the very best and want to thank her for her efforts over this past year. Corporate Governance This past month the revisions to PMI CVC’s bylaws were approved by PMI Global. They have been posted on the home page of the website for the members review. We will be voting on these bylaws at our upcoming chapter meetings. The major changes in the bylaws were to:
PMO LIGSeveral volunteers are starting a Portfolio Management Office Local Interest Group (PMO LIG). This group was formally announced at our April chapter meeting. They will have a strategy meeting in May 14th to charter the group and determine how they want to operate. The first official meeting of the group will be on June 11th. If you are interested in finding more out about this group, send a note to Sri Mahadevan at pmocvclig@gmail.com. OutreachFor some of our members, the meetings in the Richmond area may be hard to attend. PMI CVC and the Washington DC Chapter collaborated to establish meetings in the Quantico area. These meetings are thriving, and are an excellent venue for those living north of Richmond. These events are cost effective – they may be brown-bag luncheons at no charge, or have a modest cost. Please review our events list on the website to see the postings for these events. VolunteersIf you have come to our chapter meetings this year, you already have heard me focus on the need for volunteers for our chapter. I sincerely want to thank everyone that has been assisting our chapter in meeting its goals. We have a great group of people, and a phenomenal group of volunteers. However, with all of our new programs, such as the West End chapter meetings, and the PMO LIG, we continue to need additional support. Volunteering for our chapter has great rewards. Our volunteers meet new people, have the chance to build new skills, gain leadership opportunities they might not have at their jobs, and develop friendships. Our volunteer roles come in all sizes – large, medium and small. Please take a moment to reach out to the Board members if you have an interest in volunteering. We will try to match your availability and skills to a volunteer opportunity and welcome your help in reaching our 2007 goals. Also, if you have any ideas on how PMI CVC can provide additional value to you, please send me an e-mail at president@pmicvc.org or give me a call at 804-662-2792. I will be happy to talk with you to ensure you get the most from PMI CVC! Best regards, Sharon Robbins, MBB, PMP
