President's Letter

September 2007 - Letter from the President

Letter from the President

It has been an event-packed summer with people piling into cars, campers or jumping on airplanes to take a break and enjoy their vacation.  I hope that you’ve had an enjoyable one and that you are ready to gear up for fall.  The Board is busy getting ready for our chapter’s fall programs. It continues to be a great year!

Board Elections

The most exciting thing coming up is our Board elections.  This year we will be voting for our Board of Directors using a web-enabled election service.  Last year was our first year with this new service. This opens the ability to vote to our entire membership!  Jim Hayden is leading the Nominations Committee, and will have an officer slate ready soon.

This year’s election will be open for three weeks starting Friday, September 21st (Friday after the September chapter meetings) and close Friday, October 12th (Friday preceding our October meetings). Look for more information to come shortly.

Changes to our By-Laws

At our June chapter meetings, the members attending our meetings voted on changes to the bylaws.  These changes were approved by the members, signed off by the Board, accepted by PMI Global, and are now posted under Highlights on the PMI CVC website.  These changes spell out the roles and responsibilities of the Board, and clarify handling of elections and Board member removal.  Please take a look at the new bylaws at http://www.pmicvc.org/Highlights/By_Laws.pdf.

PMI CVC PMO Local Interest Group

Our PMO Local Interest Group kickoff meeting was held in June with over thirty people showing up for the first meeting!   We hope these meetings will appeal to members that might not regularly attend our chapter meetings, and will be continuing these meetings each month on the 4th Monday.   We have a Google site, where members can post templates and share best practices.  Thanks go to Jack Crowley, Robert Berlin and Sri Mahadevan for their leadership in setting up this group.  And, thanks to Markel Corporation and Andy Macklin for hosting this event.

If you are interested in participating, or just need more information, we have a webpage with more information about this service and a link to sign up at www.pmicvc.org/PMOLIG.htm.

Corporate Outreach

In an effort to engage more members, we are reaching out to companies to see how we can help them.  Is there information that we can provide, or services that we can offer, that would help you gain the support of your company for your chapter membership?  This may make the difference between the company paying your chapter dues and meeting costs, and you paying.  Please let us know.

Robert Berlin is leading this effort and can be reached at CorpOutreach@pmicvc.orgKeep on the lookout for the new Corporate Outreach page we are currently developing for the PMI CVC website with more information about our efforts.

Best regards,
Sharon
