November 2008 - President's Letter

Letter from the President

Hello and Happy Holidays PMI CVC members and Project Management community.  Yes, it may be a little early for the holiday wishes, but this is my last President’s Letter, which covers November and December.

PMI CVC Wins Prestigious Award from PMI Global

Congratulations!  You are part of one of the best PMI chapters in the world.  This is no surprise to most of us, but PMI has acknowledged our commitment to providing excellent events to our members by awarding the PMI Central Virginia Chapter with the 2008 Component of the Year Award, Category III.

A component is PMI’s term for all their related, but separate organizations and includes chapters, colleges and special interest groups (SIGs).

Category III is PMI’s categorization of components by size.  The categories are as follows:

  • Category I = 25-300 members
  • Category II = 300-1000 members
  • Category III = 1001-2000 members
  • Category IV = 2001 or more members

Special thanks to all our volunteers who made this award possible.  Truly, this chapter would not exist without committed volunteers!  The best volunteers equal the best chapter.  Great job everyone!

Make sure to attend an upcoming chapter meeting and see the award in person.  Also, watch the website for pictures and maybe even video of our Past President, Sharon Robbins, PMP, accepting the award on behalf of the chapter in Denver, CO at the PMI Global Congress.

Annual Survey

The chapter board of directors is entering the planning phase for 2009 and a big part of our planning is based on the results of our annual membership survey.  Please take the time to tell us your thoughts on 2008 events and ideas for new or enhanced services in the future.  We look forward to reviewing your responses in our planning session in early December and, as always, contact any board member any time for feedback or suggestions on chapter operations.
