January 2009 - President's Letter

Letter from the President

Hello 2009!

First, Thank You to all the chapter members, volunteers, and board members who have contributed so much time and energy into making PMI CVC an outstanding organization!  Your efforts were recognized by PMI as we were awarded the 2008 Component of the Year Award (for Chapter Size Category III).

Second, Thank You to all the chapter members, volunteers, and board members who will contribute so much time and energy into keeping PMI CVC an outstanding organization! I am honored to serve as President in 2009 with such passionate professionals.

Our Chapter Vision is “To be the premier professional project management organization … in Central Virginia.”  I truly believe we are!

I challenge you to make the most of your membership, earn inexpensive yet valuable PDUs, stay current with PM knowledge and best practices, meet a wide variety of fellow professionals, and most of all volunteer.  Join the fun of working closely with PM’s from various backgrounds, and feel the satisfaction of bringing benefits to fellow members and our community.

2009 will be a challenging year for some of our members as the current economy impacts our local companies.  Reach out to your PMI friends.  Keep an eye out for opportunities and recommend our members.  Look to the chapter website for more information.

  • Largest attendance to date at our Fall PMP Certification Workshop (35 students).
  • Our Golf Tournament raised $2000 towards E. Murray scholarship at VCU.
  • Slight gain in membership, while most associations in the US are declining.
  • Conducted 4 professional development seminars, 19 chapter meetings, 2 certification workshops.

Looking Forward to 2009

Our volunteers are working to bring us:

  • A PgMP Certification workshop
  • Earn PDUs while cruising to the Bahamas
  • Outstanding speakers at 19 chapter meetings
  • A final workshop using PMBOK, 3rd edition, in the Spring
  • Updated PMP workshop based on PMBOK, 4th edition, in the Fall
  • At least 4 educational seminars
  • Annual E. Murray Scholarship Golf Tournament on May 12
  • Active PMO LIG (the January 26 speaker is awesome)

Looking forward to working with you for a successful and rewarding 2009.
