Quantico Outreach Committee

Introduction

The Quantico Outreach Committee was started in March 2005 by the Washington, D. C. chapter of the Program Management Institute (PMIWDC) to extend chapter services and support to Program Management Professionals in the Ft. Belvoir, Quantico, and Fredericksburg area who are unable to fully participate in chapter activities due to home or work location.

Objectives

  1. Establish a committee of volunteers capable of addressing membership needs in the Quantico and surrounding area within the jurisdiction of PMIWDC.
  2. Coordinate activities with the Central Virginia Chapter (PMICVC) since Quantico is near their jurisdiction.  The objective is to create a synergy of services for chapter members in both areas of responsibility.
  3. Maintain communication interface with the Central Virginia Chapter for Quantico/Stafford activities.
  4. Conduct bi-monthly luncheon and semi-annual dinner meetings.
  5. Promote PDU activities and PMP/CAPM certification classes in the Quantico area as appropriate to meet membership needs and in coordination with the Vice President for professional development.

Activities

  • Luncheons are scheduled for January, March, July, and November. Speakers for both the luncheon and dinner meetings come from government and industry and address the spectrum of program management issues and topics. Luncheons are generally held on base at Quantico Marine Base. Getting on base for non-military and non-government personnel is not a problem. PMPs receive 1 PDU for attending.
  • Dinner meetings are scheduled in May and September. We are inaugurating our first tool session before the September 2007 dinner meeting. Dinner meetings are held on base or at local restaurants. PMPs receive 1 PDU for the tools session and 1 PDU for the dinner meeting.
  • The committee participates in the Marine Corps Systems Command Acquisition Excellence Day by sponsoring a booth to promote the Program Management Institute, provide literature, and speak with interested attendees about PMI and certification.
  • Our schedule is advertised on both the PMIWDC and the PMICVC web sites. We encourage on-line registration at www.pmiwdc.org.
