Communications Committee Update - January/February 2010

Giving You Something New

So, what do you think? Do you like it?

If you are reading this page, we hope you notice that you are viewing a new website for the chapter.

Throughout 2009, the members of the Communications Committee were hard at work building the framework for a new website for the chapter. The goal was to have a more flexible platform for providing content, registering for events, and managing various parts of the chapter. We made the change to the new site at the end of 2009, once we had settled on our website format, tested out the registration functionality, and migrated much of the prior content.

Please understand that we are not done improving the site. We have exciting plans for the site for 2010. We want to begin to personalize your experience more. Your website login will bring you more than just event registration privileges. We hope to create a web forum for members to engage in online discussions. And there are other possibilities that we are exploring and hope to expose you to.

If you like what you see or think you want to help, we can always use more volunteers.

We hope you like what you see so far. And we hope you like what will be coming.

A Call For Content

But we cannot make this site more useful without more content. And that's where you can come in.

Do you have a unique perspective on project management that you want to share?
Some lessons learned from a recent project or a lifetime of experience that you think others would love to hear about?
A funny story that reinforces how to have fun on a project while delivering on a project?
Or a more serious reflection on how to overcome the obstacles that we all face as project managers?

We have an example of such voluntary contributions in the January 2010 newsletter, with William Fraker's note about being a volunteer for the chapter. We'd love to share more content like it with the chapter, typically through the newsletter but possibly through regular postings, too.

We believe you have something you can share with the chapter. Do you?

Your Turn

Just so you know, those questions at the beginning were not meant to be rhetorical. Please, let us know what you think of the new website. And maybe more importantly, what else would you like to see on the site? Let us know your opinion and suggestions about the website. We want the website to be a tool for all members in central Virginia.

Let's help make this one of the best PMI chapter websites possible.
