Letter from the President
What a year!
It seems everyone I know is either unemployed or overwhelmed with work. The challenges and opportunities are endless. This includes me, as I travel more, work longer hours, and stay one step behind. Then, why do I make time for PMI CVC? Because I love it. I love the great people and networking, the excellent speakers and learning, the variety of seminars and more learning. Bottom Line – It is more important than ever for me to stay on top of my professional knowledge and contacts.
I’ve watched as over half our board members have been unemployed at some point since our elections almost a year ago. It takes true grit to stay focused on volunteer activities when you paycheck is in doubt. Unfortunately, several board members have had to re-prioritize their lives. The admirable trait is that they recognized the need to step aside and not impact the chapter. I wish them the best of luck and know that it could easily be me.
What goes around comes around.
Do you love your profession? Do you love your job? I do and I know how fortunate I am!! I know I do a better job when I’m challenged and happy with my initiatives and teams. This has not always been true, and I’ve sought change in clients or companies over my career.
In recent years I’ve noticed a shift – just wait, things will change. This was brought to mind recently when I had the opportunity to meet "in person" a prospective employer who I spoke with a few years ago. The criteria for the job that I was looking for and did not have in my position at that time, is being met today. I am at the same company, just in another place. Am I glad I stayed? YES! Business has to be responsive to changes in technology and our global economy. Businesses themselves are changing and optimizing internally.
I know the axiom is to take charge of your life and your career. I add another thought – sometimes it takes patience. What goes around comes around.
Hope to see you soon at one of the chapter meetings or events. Let me hear your experiences in the ever changing world we live in.
Have a wonderful summer!!
