President's Letter - January 2011

What a year we had in 2010. I noticed resurgence in interest in project management in the community and in our members. The professional development events, dinner meetings, and PMP workshops offered through the chapter were well attended. The discussions and feedback received for all events was lively and helpful. In addition, the chapter was acknowledged by PMI as the 2010 Component of the Year (for Chapter Size Category III). We were also awarded the 2010 Component Award for Volunteer Program of the Year, and the 2010 Component Award for Membership Program of the Year. The Component of the Year award is our third in a row, and the Volunteer Program of the Year award is the second in a row.  How do you top that?

These accomplishments could not have been made without the efforts of all of the volunteers who offer their time and energy to ensuring the events happen. Thanks to all of you who have volunteered over the past year, I cannot say enough about the work you do.

The coming year promises to be just as exciting and there will be plenty of opportunities to stay involved (or get involved if you haven’t yet). I would like to say “Thank You” in advance to all of you who will volunteer your time over the next year. Believe me when I say that the chapter could not run without all of you.

This year will see the chapter celebrate its 15 year anniversary. We are planning a party, of sorts, so keep your eyes and ears open for more on this event. There will also be a number of development opportunities as well as the two PMP workshops to help advance the knowledge of our members. I look forward to working with this year’s board to find ways to best support all of you.

As you are all aware, the Board of Directors transitions some of its members each year. This year’s Board is:

  • VP Certification – Susan Thomas, PMP
  • VP Communications – Bernie Farkas, PMP
  • VP Finance –  Joyce M. Glady, PMP
  • VP Marketing – Christine Herman, PMP
  • VP Membership – Barbara Nichols, PMP
  • VP Professional Development – Linda Oliver, PMP
  • VP Programs – Michael Vozar, PMP
  • VP Volunteerism – Sally Deering, PMP
  • President-Elect – Kelly Evans, PMP
  • Past President – Paul Gilbo, PMP

Please get to know them and do not hesitate to ask any of us if you have a question or a concern.

Lastly, I would like to remind all of you of our chapter website. We are constantly improving the site and will be adding more to the member’s only section as well as overall site enhancement. The web site offers a wealth of information about the chapter and upcoming events. I know that there will be some updates soon in the Professional development page, so check back to see what is coming.

I am here to help facilitate the rest of the board and their teams of volunteers. As I mentioned before, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the board if you have questions.

I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year.
