President's Letter - November 2011
I can truly say this past month has been quite busy. As I write this the chapter has just completed the fall certification workshop, not to mention great anniversary dinner that was earlier in October. As the year winds down there are still things going on with the chapter. Professional Development opportunities are still scheduled, so take advantage of all that you can.
I want to recognize the group of people who made the Anniversary Dinner such a great success. For those of you who were not able to attend, you missed a wonderful evening. The committee was led by Kelly Evans, and she was assisted by: Renee Moore, Tom White, Danita Hughes, Mitch Jones, Mike Vozar, Michelle Monday, and Niki Mason. A special shout out goes to Bernie Farkas (Communications) and Joyce Glady (Finance) for the support they provided to the total effort. The work put into this event was evident by all those who attended the dinner.
The workshop that completed on October 30th was another big success. I met about 25 current and future PMPs. I always enjoy talking with the students in the workshops because they bring such a variety of backgrounds and perspectives on project management. I wish all of those preparing for the exam the best of luck. As anyone with the certification knows, it is not a simple undertaking.
Over the next two months, the newly elected board members will be meeting with the outgoing board members to better understand their roles and how they fit into the larger picture of the chapter. They may reach out to some of you for help with planning for the next year. Please provide them any and all feedback that you are able to. This time of the year the board starts to wind down on events and spends more time focused on this transition process. Several of the board members found new ideas at the Leadership Institute Meeting in Dallas a couple of weeks ago. I am always surprised by the number of new ideas that come from these meetings, and I look forward to seeing what the board will be able to do with those in the next year.
The board can not and does not do all of this on their own, and is going to need continued support from all of you to make things happen. As I have said many times, the volunteers make this chapter what it is. I can’t say thank you enough for all of the volunteers who have worked and continue to work for the chapter. If you have some time that you can volunteer we would be more than happy to work with you to match your skills and desires with the chapter’s needs. Please contact our VP of Volunteerism for more details.
November is our last dinner meeting for the year. If you can attend we would love to have you.
Sincerely,
John…
